Samsung has confirmed it is to release its first Android-based mobile phone in the second quarter of next year in North America.

Industry insiders are stating that Samsung is currently in the development process of a Gphone that will see a launch on Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile USA.

With 90 developers apparently on the task force team to create the device, it's suggested it will be a touchscreen model similar to the Omnia.

A Korean news source quotes an "official" of Samsung as saying: "We are accelerating the development process for Google phone in order to meet the specific need of local carriers".

"We will be able to release Google phone in the second quarter of the next year in the US market".
