The Android development team is prepping a big software update code-named "Cupcake" that promises new features for the platform, as well as a plethora of bug fixes.

Only just revealed on the project's roadmap, despite the Android platform's open source nature, Cupcake has been worked on as a "private branch" project but will be integrated back into the main branch by early next year.

New features promised in the update include video recording, a voice recorder, the ability to save MMS attachments and stereo Bluetooth.

In addition, there's a very long list of tweaks, bug fixes and smaller enhancements and other changes all described as "still very much a work in progress".

We will bring you more on the official release when we have it.
