Firebox launches Poken social networking USB gadget

Like a Facebook-friendly virtual business card

19 December 2008 13:32 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Firebox is offering a curious, and slightly niche, new gadget - the Poken, a sort of virtual business card.

The USB device, that's designed to use as a keyring, lets you swap your online contact details instantly with another Poken-owner.

Pull out your Poken and "high five" it with a friend’s and RF technology zaps the online contact info between the devices, so next time you log on to your favourite social networking site, and upload the info, your profiles will be linked.

Poken users have to set up an online account, that can manage their contact deets, social networking info, list contacts and offers various privacy settings. A Poken can store up to 64 contacts before an upload is necessary.

The four Pokens - an alien, bee, panda or voodoo - are available now from Firebox for £12.95 each.

  • I have a Poken, and it works pretty well, if you find somebody else who has one too of course!

In fact I'm giving away a couple on my website, so if you want to have your own Poken you can go there and enter the contest: http://tinyurl.com/4cnemk
