BBC to celebrate iPlayer day on 12 December

Behind the scenes look at how the service works and more

BBC to celebrate iPlayer day on 12 December

9 December 2008 11:11 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

To celebrate the iPlayer's year anniversary, the team behind the service is offering to take viewers "behind the scenes to lift the lid on how Britain's most popular TV catch-up service works".

From 9am on Friday 12 December, the iPlayer crew will be posting content at least every hour. Fans of the service can look forward to video, guest posts, pictures, diagrams and "anything we can lay our hands on as the day unfolds".

In addition there will be interviews with the BBC people who play a part in the iPlayer process including one with Erik Huggers, director of Future Media and Technology.

Audience participation is going to be a part of the day too. Those using the iPlayer throughout the day are invited to take a picture, and add it to the special iPlayer Day Flickr group - with the best also to be published on the site.

Twitter users can let the team know their thoughts on the iPlayer, its programmes and features, and ask Huggers a question, by tagging posts #iplayerday which will then be streamed live on the blog.

The BBC team states: "We hope iPlayer Day will give everyone who uses the service a chance to feed back and discuss anything about it they wish".
