Play.com says today will be busiest Christmas shopping day

Play.com is predicting today will be the busiest day ever for internet purchases.

Apparently, in the run-up to Christmas Day, Mondays are traditionally always the busiest for web buying and 8 December is set to see sales soar by 25% year on year.

At peak trading hours Play.com is expecting to process an average of 936 orders per minute compared with 700 at the same time in 2007.

The online retailer also expects to ship over 532,000 units today, representing 332 tonnes of goods that will include books, DVDS, CDs and video games.
