Woolworths to cut prices up to 50%

Massive sale starts tomorrow

Woolworths to cut prices up to 50%

4 December 2008 17:51 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Woolworths administrator Deloitte has told MCV that the troubled high street retailer will launch its "Biggest Ever Sale" tomorrow that will see massive half price discounts.

Deloitte said: "We anticipate increased footfall in the stores and have hired additional staff to cope with increased demand. Additional goods have been moved to all stores and further stock will be added in the coming days".

"There is continuing interest in the core Woolworths business and the sale will continue whilst potential buyers finalise their plans for the purchase of the business".

MCV reports that toys will be 50% off, Christmas trees and decorations will see a 30% reduction and 20% will be lopped off personal gifts and entertainment products.

  • Of course, the magic words are "up to." We visited our (currently-) local Woolworth's to find the reductions were just (or rather almost just) what one would expect in the run up to a Christmas when there's a credit crunch about. Posted by Rob Falconer, UK
