Truphone launches VOIP app for iPod touch

Make Wi-Fi calls on your MP3 player

4 December 2008 14:58 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Truphone has released a new app for the iPod touch that effectively turns the MP3 player into a mobile phone - with the addition of a microphone adapter.

The software is offered free via Apple App Store, and as the calls are made via the device's Wi-Fi connectivity they are free, and there is no contract.

Once installed, and with that afore-mentioned microphone adaptor hooked-up, touch owners can make free calls to other iPod touch owners with the service, to users of Truphone's internet telephony service, and to users of the Google Talk instant messaging service.

Calling to Skype and MSN users as well as IMing and chargeable calls to and from landlines are features promised soon.
