Asus has launched the G71 series of gaming notebooks in the UK.
The Asus G71 is notable as the world's first quad core gaming notebook, powered by the Intel Core 2 Extreme processor QX9300.
With "extremely" high levels of performance promised, the overclocked effort is aimed firmly at "hardcore" gamers - and in particular those with a spare £2k in their sky-rockets.
The G71 offers a 17-inch display with an 8ms response time, an Nvidia GeForce 9700M GT GDDR3 512MB graphics card, 4GB of DDR2 1333MHz SDRAM memory, Dual 250GB HDDs, a Blu-ray drive, Altec Lansing speakers, webcam and Bluetooth.
In addition, there are other tweaks that will appeal to the gamer such as programmable chassis lighting, hot keys and a secondary display for messaging,
A cheaper version with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor is also available for £1349.
