Nokia Home Control Center announced

Open smart home platform to launch next year

27 November 2008 9:38 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Nokia has announced today it is developing a smart home platform, the Nokia Home Control Center.

Spelling issues aside, the platform will see a new era for the networked home when it is commercially available by the end of 2009.

An open Linux-based offering, the platform will let third parties integrate their own smart home solutions and services with a plug and play ethos promised across all solutions with high security levels built in.

All solutions based on the platform will be used through a smartphone or PC locally or remotely.

Nokia promises that consumers will eventually be able to monitor and control their electricity usage, switch devices on and off, and monitor different objects, such as temperature, camera, and motion.

In future, entire systems within the home can be connected to the Nokia platform, including security, heating, and ventilation systems.

The first joint solution comes with energy company RWE that will focus on home heating management that will allow remote control of such systems.
