Apple sued over Safari

Patent infringement lawsuit filed

25 November 2008 10:02 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Apple is being sued for patent infringement over its Safari browser.

The lawsuit claims a technology the iPhone uses to surf the Web infringes on a patent by EMG Technology LLC.

EMG Technology LLC, based in Los Angeles, is a company owned by real estate developer Elliot Gottfurcht.

The infringed tech is said to be how the iPhone navigates and displays some websites designed for small phone screens.

EMG has not sued any mobile phone companies for infringement: "We haven't looked at anything other than the iPhone", Gottfurcht's lawyer told Reuters.

"That was the device that we looked at. Obviously it's very popular".
