US gets online think tank on privacy

The Future of Privacy Forum has now launched

The US has come up with yet another way to tackle online piracy.

A new think tank has been founded called the Future of Privacy Forum.

According to Ars Technica, the Forum will be headed by Jules Polonetsky, formerly chief privacy officer at AOL, and Christopher Wolf, an attorney at Proskauer Rose.

The organisation has the ambition of getting together industry experts to come up with smarter privacy practices - to ensure the co-existence of "privacy, profits, and personalisation".

Polonetsky explained that this could include making, "data use to be obvious, to be intuitive, to be used for benefits that people value and that they control".

However, the think tank has already been attacked because the majority of its funding comes from AT&T, and so online commentators are worried it will be biased towards businesses as opposed to individuals.
