Panasonic unveils Full HD plasma TVs

Including the TH-65VX100 with the world's highest contrast ratio

Two new Panasonic Full HD plasma displays are going to be available from early next year.

First up is the TH-65VX100, which is claimed to achieve the blackest blacks with the world's highest contrast ratio of 60,000:1.

The second launch is the TH-50VX100, which has a contrast ratio of 30,000:1.

Both of the new displays, which are aimed at home cinema enthusiasts, deliver 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels) full high-definition content.

They use a new generation of plasma display panels with a new structure in which a recently-developed Dynamic Black Layer is positioned at the front end of the panel.

This supports the high contrast ratio, but coupled with a new optical filter, also results in an HDTV-standard colour gamut.

They are available as both 65- and 50-inch models. The TH-65VX100 will be available in January 2009 and the TH-50VX100 in February. No prices as yet though.

UPDATE: The price of the TH-65VX100 will be around the £7999 mark.
