Plus connection freezes and lock-ups aplenty too

NXE launch marred by RRoD reports. Gaming, Xbox 360, NXE, Microsoft 0

It seems the launch of the new experience on Microsoft's Xbox 360 hasn't gone as we might have expected with users reporting a host of glitches with the new software update.

Within 24 hours of NXE going live, internet forums were abuzz with Xboxers reporting connection freezes, lock-ups and a number of other errors.

Worst of all, there are even some reports that the infamous red ring of death is back, with some saying it's limited to modded consoles, while others claiming untampered units are being affected too.

Xbox Live's Major Nelson has admitted there have been "a few issues" with the New Xbox Experience update, but says that they are being worked on.

Writing on his blog, the Major said: "With an update of this magnitude, reaching more than 14 million people around the globe, we are aware some of you may be experiencing a few hiccups along the way".

"The Live team is closely monitoring the Live service and Xbox.com and are aware of a few issues including what's happening with Marketplace. The team is actively working on the issues, so thanks for bearing with us."

Have you had any problems with NXE?

  • Yes! Kid's refurbished unit received this spring (last one died of RROD this spring) showing the RROD after the NXE install. Gates should send every penny he's made from these consoles to the families of the poor third-world support staffs he's hired to insulate himself from this piece of crap. The man's a pimp - plain and simple. Posted by rick, usa
  • No, no problems here. This is probably because I keep my unit clean and in good condition, and regularly clean out dust from the inside. Posted by Dr.Melon, Scotland
  • Lets See...Hmmm this is my 5th Xbox 360 Console. And I just received my FIFTH RROD. Best part about it, is that I finally just upgraded to an Elite system. It's nice to know that the RROD is also available on the newer, more expensive console. This spot should actually be filled with expletives and swears. But now it's just funny. 5 XBOXES!! ARRGHHH!!! I hate you Microsoft. Posted by Justin Marcos, United States
  • Hahaha Bill Gates is a pimp.

Anywho, no problems for me in the UK, and I have the 1st edition Elite console. The people who are complaining have one common denominator = American.

Probably spending 15 out of 24 hours a day playing and wondering why it is overheating....

  • I got RROD after NXE update. My console is not modded. I play maybe 1hr every few days so definatly not from overuse.
My console is a lauch console and out of warrenty but I am getting the repair without charge confirming to me Microsoft know it is the NXE causing the problem.
But they told me they still stand by their product. If I said that in my job I would be told my services would not be required anymore and let go.
Unfortunatly the only way I can sack Microsoft is by bad mouthing them and eventually getting rid of my console after my live account runs out, I want my moneys worth. I am going to donate it to a good cause and move to some other form of gaming
I just wish Microsoft would admit to all the issues and there are a lot.
If it hasn't happend to you you've won the lottery. Keep your fingers crossed it won't because there is a growing backlog at repair centres at least in Australia, I know this for a fact.

Nelson is just one part of the problem, don't belive anything that spring out of his mouth. The only Major he is, is a sprout the company line Major P*ick.

    Yes i'm upset

  • I got RROD immediately after I updated to NXE. I play maybe 5 hours a week. Posted by Jimmy, USA
  • Right after I was forced to update my machine all my games started to freeze after about 5 minutes of play. I called Xbox support and they told me that it was not the update that is causing my machine to freeze.

They said since it is only software that was pushed out to the hard drive and my hardware is what is having the issue. (I assume they mean my system board)

Funny how everything work great before the update.

I did a little more research and I found that not only was it software that was pushed out to the HDD but also FIRMWARE!!!!

For users out there who are unaware, firmware updates flash a chip on your system board. Usually in gaming consoles the OS is stored on a chip on your system board.... not the hard drive. Therefore, they lied to me about the hardware not being touched. OR the support person was unaware of what actually was pushed out.

Anyways, my machine doesn't waork and if I want it fixed I have to pay.

    Very frustrating!

  • Yep, live in good ol' blighty (UK), my son downloaded NXE update yesterday, machine started to freeze up, removed harddrive and tried again etc. now got red rings of death, this was a new machine in February of this year, great a couple of weeks before Xmas. Wish he'd read this thread first? Posted by Craig Crawshaw, UK
  • I noticed a big change in loading speed after I installed the NXE update. For example; I always listen to music while playing games on the 360, With the old interface it loaded instantly while playing a game, but now if im playing a game and want to play music it takes 5-10 mins to get some playing. It doesn't matter if i use the xbox hard drive or a pen drive, its just alot slower than the original interface.

Ive had one RROD, but that was a problem with the power pack (huge brick) which I got exchanged at my local GAME store, cheers guys =)

  • Yes, I have no sound on my new Toshiba TV when connected with the HDMI cable. Video is great, but I have to connect a set of headphones via the dongle to hear anything and that really isn't all that awsome. Any word on when they're going to get that part fixed? Posted by Tiger, USA
