HP has announced the TouchSmart tx2 notebook PC, describing it as the first multi-touch enabled consumer notebook, featuring HP's TouchSmart technology and HP MediaSmart software.

The TouchSmart tx2 features capacitive touch, which HP says means more accurate input and can distinguish between a finger and a palm on the display to disregard accidental brushes or swipes.

This interface also accepts simultaneous input, so you can use both hands to crop or move photos.

There is also a digital pen that can be used as an input device, so in "slate mode", users can write onscreen with the pen and the notes are automatically converted to editable text.

The notebook has a 12.1-inch BrightView display, remote control for media applications, ExpressCard slot, built-in webcam as an option and is powered by AMD Turion X2 dual core processors and ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics.

The HP TouchSmart tx2 will be available in the UK in January 2009, when presumably full specs will be revealed, at a recommended street price starting at £799.
