Smartphones to get full Adobe Flash

Flash Player 10 coming to high-end models

18 November 2008 10:56 GMT / By Katie Scott

Adobe has been working for years and years on a version of its Flash player that would be suitable for mobile phones.

The general view was that this would be a lightweight incarnation, but now Adobe has revealed that it is actually working on a fully fledged version of its Flash Player 10 for high-end smartphones.

Chief technology officer Kevin Lynch told journos at Adobe's Max conference in San Francisco: "We are midst of evolving Flash Player 10 for mobile. We're taking the full Flash Player and making that run on the higher end of the mobile market".

Lynch then demonstrated Flash Player 10 on devices running Nokia's Symbian operating system, Microsoft's Windows Mobile and Google's Android operating system.

But it looks like iPhone owners aren't going to be getting the player anytime soon.

"This needs a little more baking. We need to pass the taste test of Apple's head chef", said Lynch.
