Carphone Warehouse to announce TalkTalk split

Spin-off could net £900 million

17 November 2008 11:45 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Carphone Warehouse could sell off its TalkTalk broadband business in a bid to release value for shareholders, it's being reported.

Charles Dunstone, the founder and chief executive of the group, is said to be looking into the best way to split the business, launched in 2003.

Although any split is not likely to happen until next year, analysts suggest BSkyB and Telefonica, parent company of O2, could bid up to £900 million for TalkTalk.

Vodafone, which was previously said to be interested in the company has told The Telegraph it has "categorically no interest in buying TalkTalk".

TalkTalk has 2.8 million customers and is Britain's third-largest supplier.
