For the first time, the One Laptop Per Child Foundation is to offer its XO machines in the European market.

The debut of the device will also see the charitable group run its G1G1 - give one, get one - programme in Europe later this month.

As has been running in the States, the scheme will let UK customers buy an XO laptop while donating another one to a child in the developing world.

The programme will be launching across Europe and the US on 17 November on a minisite hosted by Amazon.

This partnership with the etailer is hoped to eliminate problems seen when the scheme was run in house.

Customers in the UK will be charged £254 for two of the devices, one of which will be automatically shipped to the developing world. The cost in the US is from $199.

  • G1G1? More like 2L2L (two little, too late).

A year ago I was interested in the XO to replace my fleet of aging Psion Series 7's, but Asus have beat them to it with the eee range.
