NBC has teamed up with Mindshare Entertainment to launch an online spin-off of the US drama Heroes.

Heroes: Destiny has been created with the help of the fans, who choose the gender, name, special powers and other features of the new hero.

Sponsored by Sprint, the mini-series will follow a character called Santiago, who lives in Lima and works as a mechanic.

He will be played by Columbian born Roberto Urbina.

The first of four episodes of "Heroes: Destiny" has now debuted and the next three will run on consecutive Monday nights.

Viewers will be able to tune in via NBC.com, via network Sprint and on Hulu, the video streaming site that is owned by NBC and News Corp.

But it won't be available to Heroes fans outside of the States.
