Microsoft plays down Yahoo deal rumours

"We made an offer, we made another offer ... We moved on."

After its ad deal with Google fell through, Yahoo's CEO Jerry Yang admitted that a deal with Microsoft may be the best thing for the company.

But Microsoft doesn't seem all that keen, perhaps bruised after so many months of wrangling and rejections.

Microsoft's chief exec Steve Ballmer has dismissed speculation that his company may still be keen to buy Yahoo, and this immediately sent shares of the internet company down 14%.

"We made an offer, we made another offer ... We moved on", Ballmer told journos in Sydney.

"We tried at one point to do a partnership around search ... and that didn't work either, and we moved on and they moved on. We are not interested in going back and re-looking at an acquisition. I don't know why they would be either, frankly", Ballmer said.
