Apple must have thousands of patents registered but only one will make you look like Geordie La Forge.

This is a new patent for a head mounted display - in order words - a pair of specs you can watch content on.

But these are unique in including an accelerometer and gyroscope so you can manipulate the image you are looking at, zoom in and out, and look around.

I wonder if motion sickness pills will be included with the specs?

  • I think the point of the accelerometer and gyroscope is to enable Virtual Reality. By knowing the angle and speed of movement, the display could simulate a real room so you could look around you and around objects and corners, and, if GPS was also present, overlay a digital image upon the real world.

Terminator type heads up display here we come!

  • Wow, patenting technology that is already on sale on eBay. VR headset with gyros so you can turn your head 'in game' have been around for at least a year.
I want a job in Apple's tech dept. if all you have to do is surf eBay looking at new technology (although to be fair, since Apple can't make decent games machines, it can be assumed that the existing device is PC only).
