Pre-orders for the new BlackBerry Storm are in the "high tens of thousands" according to Vodafone.

"We've had massive demand for the handset", a spokesperson told Pocket-lint before adding that while the numbers hadn't topped 100,000 pre-orders it was getting close.

The phone, which was officially unveiled to the press on Thursday, will go on sale on the 14 November in stores across the country.

Anticipated to be a "Hot" gadget for Christmas, the phone has already picked up its first award.

Pocket-lint's indpendent panel of judges voted the BlackBerry Storm the Best Mobile of 2008 at this year's Vodafone Pocket-lint Gadget Awards. The phone beat nominations from Apple, Nokia, LG and HTC.
