Mozilla is celebrating after the news that its Firefox browser has hit - and surpassed - 20% worldwide market share.

"Congratulations to the Mozilla community for reaching this historic milestone!" states the official blog for the company.

This is the first time Firefox has achieved the 20% mark, and notable as it faces increased competition from Google's recently launched Chrome browser.

The figures come from the Market Share report from metrics company Net Applications that show the browser hit the milestone for two weeks during October.
