"A true icon of American industry"

Up for auction in the States, described as a "true icon of American industry", is the very first Apple sign.

Used by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak to promote their then fledgling start-up, Apple Computer Co. the sign dates back to 1976.

After some trade show use, the sign apparently remained in service for years outside the company's headquarters in Cupertino, California.

Measuring 100 inches long by 22.5 inches tall, the sign is Plexiglass with a wood frame.

The sign has been owned for years by M. Thomas Liggett, Jr, an ex-Apple employee, who should net around $15,000 to $20,000 in the sale.
