Facebook beats BBC for visitor numbers

1.84 million users in September

Facebook has beaten the BBC's sites for visitor numbers for the first time.

The stats from comScore show that in September Facebook entered the top five rankings for the UK's most visited sites with 18.4 million unique users over the month.

For that time period, only Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and eBay got more traffic in the UK.

The BBC saw its traffic fall year-on-year in September, down 2.7% to 18.2 million unique users.

Likely due to the economic climate, business and finance news sites saw a 10% leap in traffic during September, whilst politics sites saw a 27% boost.
