A new way to charge batteries on the go has launched with the introduction of the compact USB battery charger by Varta.

The pocket-sized Varta USB charger is described as smaller than most mobile phones and - in the run up to Christmas - "the ideal accessory for any gadget lover".

It fits into a standard USB port, enabling the batteries to be charged through a PC or a laptop.

Shock resistant, the charger comes with two AA and two AAA pre-charged batteries and has two green LEDs to indicate when the device is in charging mode.

The USB charger is available from high street retailers, for an RRP of £9.99.
