ITN teams up with Google for news map mashup

Find the news via postcode

29 October 2008 16:27 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Heard a horrific story on the news, but have no idea if it's in your neighbourhood? Well ITN is hoping it can help with a new mashup it's launched with Google using the search engine's mapping software.

The new feature on the ITN site allows you to see where news stories are happening via pins on a map.

Although still in its early stages ITN will allow you to search the map via postcode so see stories it's filed relating to those areas.

Web users could then see that information to learn more about their local community and see whether it's a hotspot for crime based on the stories filed.

The mashup is the result of a partnership between ITN and Google, using Google's "Gears Location API".
