PNY boosts netbook storage

Introduces memory card specifically designed for UMPCs

29 October 2008 17:28 GMT / By Katie Scott

PNY is claiming to be the first company to have designed a range of memory cards specifically for slotting into netbooks.

The SDHC NetBook Memory Card is promised to be able to double the storage on your netbook, or even more.

The card is available in 8GB and 16GB capacities, starting at around £13.

"NetBook concept being based on design, mobility but also and mostly on price, the only way to remain close to the 300 euros price target, is to decrease the device configuration: this is where the PNY upgrade solution becomes obvious", explains Laure Lapègue of PNY Europe.

The PNY SDHC NetBook edition comes with a 5-year manufacturer warranty and will be available from 1 November.

  • Oh, weve modified a standardised low profile memory card to make it more low profile... Yeah, right! Its just a freakin' SDHC card. Why is this news??? It isn't, it is merely advertising. Posted by Toby H, United Kingdom
  • Well, my netbook (Acer Aspire One) has a dedicated SDHC slot to complement it's SSD - I put a 32 Gb SDHC card in.
It seems PNY are trying to push SDHC cards whilst Intel,Samsung etc are releasing cheap (sic) high capacity SSD's which perform better and have better longivity. I know which I'd go for (no one's released high capacity SSD's that replace the Aspire One's 8Gb SSD yet).
