LinkedIn launches apps

Google and Amazon amongst those on board

29 October 2008 13:42 GMT / By Katie Scott

Just last week, the business-orientated social networking website LinkedIn managed to secure a whooping $22.7m in new funding to help extend its network around the world.

Now the site has hit the headlines again but this time because it has teamed up with the likes of Google and Amazon to introduce a whole array of applications.

The eight new apps have a business feel ranging from programs that allow users to share files, presentations, reading lists, blogs and travel schedules with colleagues.

One of the applications comes from Box.net and allows LinkedIn users to share and manage documents through their profile page.

Huddle.net's program offers a secure online "workspace" to swap ideas and "team up on projects".

The Google app lets members embed presentations on their profile page.

"What you're looking at here is really collaboration infrastructure for companies", said Patrick Crane, LinkedIn's vice president of marketing.
