LaCie offers online backup for new hard drives

Promises to keep your files safe online

29 October 2008 10:29 GMT / By Stuart Miles

LaCie has announced that it will offer 1 year of online backup for any LaCie external hard drive it offers.

The new offer, which is powered by online backup company Carbonite will mean any drive you buy from the company will automatically backup new and modified files.

Those worried about security shouldn't be, as the company says it will encrypt files twice before leaving the original workstation, before transmitting them by HTTPS (SSL) to a secure data centre, where the information remains encrypted, protecting the user’s privacy.

LaCie say backups are completed only when the computer is idle, so the process never interferes with computer performance.

The Unlimited LaCie Online Backup offer will be available at no extra charge for 1 full year beginning November 2008 on all LaCie consumer hard drives.

  • I protect my files and emails with a very easy to use data backup software called Titan Backup, the destination is a 500gb WD harddisk, but the company stated that an online feature is under work also. Give it a free trial here.

I also got my hands on a 30% discount coupon from them, during the order process enter this coupon:NEOB-M5VL
