BT has launched the Stratus 1500, describing it as "a sleek and stylish cordless phone sure to appeal to the design conscious household."

The base unit of the Stratus is a triangular prism, and the silver and black handset sits upright in a curved dip.

A blue message counter shows the number of new voicemails, and the answerphone is operated by silver buttons across the front of the base.

The handset features a white on black screen, and sunken buttons for a smooth streamlined finish. The Stratus' functions include text-messaging, polyphonic ringtones and a 100 name and number phonebook.

The handset has a range of up to 300 metres outdoors and 50 metres indoors and boasts battery life of up to 10 hours talktime and 100 hours standby time.

It is available from www.shop.bt.com in single, twin and trio packs for £69.99, £109.99 and £149.99 respectively.

  • It never ceases to amaze me that companies are still releasing answerphones, I dont know a single person that uses one! Dont we all use exchanged based messaging like 1571 nowadays? Posted by Atlantic Wave Radio, UK
  • No, because 1571 is too basic and bl**dy useless! Posted by Iain, UK
  • I use an answerphone, it beeps when i come if there is a message and saves the need to listen to the dialling code. Its also means that i get the message straight away not when i decide to pick up the phone. Posted by Action, UK
  • That first guy is easily amazed - a toe pointer from 30 yards out into the back of the net is amazing, a shiny new ferrari belonging to the milkman driving through our local village is amazing, an astronaut losing a tool bag in space and astronomers finding it with a telescope in their back garden is amazing. An answer machine on a telephone, well that is a feature. Posted by Kevin, N Ireland
  • These phones have a serious design flaw - names and numbers input into 1 handset cannot be transferred to other handsets. Not really acceptable in 2009 - other manufacturers (eg Panasonic) have had this timesaving feature for years. Posted by Neil Bailey, uk
