Denon has unveiled a new high-end Blu-ray player, the DVD-3800BD, describing it as the company's first "reference-standard" effort.

"Amazing" audio and "best" pictures are promised from the £1600 player, that also upscales DVDs to "as near as possible to full HD."

The new player is the world's first Blu-ray player to feature the 10-bit Silicon Optix Realta chipset that offers the highest resolution high-definition video available today via an HDMI connection.

The sound side of things is equally high-end with high-definition audio decoding and D.D.S.C.-HD audio output, Denon AL24 sound processors and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoders.

In addition to the tech, there's all kinds of Denon build-quality gubbins that arguably most consumers won't notice, or even be bothered about.

These include a special drive mechanism with top and bottom shields, a Supress Vibratio Hybrid loader for super stable disc loading and reading and seperate video and power circuits so there's no signal degradation.

The DVD-3800BD has a suggested retail price of £1600 and will be available in three finishes, silver, "premium" silver and black in December 2008.
