Ten days after being seen off by fellow space tourist, Google's Sergey Brin, American games developer Richard Garriott had landed on terra firma.

Garriott paid £17m for the 10-day trip aboard the Soyuz space capsule, which was carrying himself and two Russian crew.

The spacecraft landed safely in Kazakhstan at 0336GMT, and the crew reported that they were "feeling well".

Garriott follows his father, Owen Garriott into space - the latter spent 60 days on the Skylab station, the United States' first orbiting space station in 1973.

Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, has announced his own plans to travel into space and has paid a $5 million deposit for his journey to the International Space Station in 2011.
