Android Market launches

With 50 apps

Android Market - the online store for applications for the Android platform - has gone live.

In the States the T-Mobile G1, the first and currently only, Android-based phone has gone on sale.

The G1 is due to go on sale in the UK on 30 October, so anyone planning to pick one up can have a sneak preview of what apps they might want to download.

Android Market currently has 50 applications available that range from games, weather tools, mapping help, shopping guides and music.

Developers can currently register their free apps for $25, in the new year paid-for apps will launch with developers getting 70% of the revenue.

In a blog post, the Android developer team have promised "additional tools and enhancements to Android Market" in the coming months.

They also states: "We expect to see additional Android-powered devices rolling out by different carriers around the world".
