Toshiba has introduced the new 12.1-inch Portege A600 that weighs in at 1.4kg.

Developed for the mobile professional, Toshiba says the A600 "reflects the concept" behind the high-end R600, and includes many of the same technological advances.

Powered by the latest Intel Centrino 2 processors, each model offers 2GB of RAM and gets Tosh's EasyGuard technology, that offers multi-level password protection, log-on via fingerprint recognition and shock resistance.

The Portege A600 has an LED backlit LCD non-reflective TFT display, storage of up to 250GB and an integrated DVD SuperMulti Dual-Layer disk drive.

Battery life of up to seven and a half hours is claimed and it offers Toshiba's nifty USB Sleep and Charge technology that allows external peripherals to be charged when the laptop is turned off.

There's an optional integrated 3G/HSPA modem for mobile broadband access, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, integrated webcam, eSATA USB ports and an integrated Express Card reader and SD card slot.

The Toshiba Portege A600 with Windows Vista Business is available from the end of October, from £849.00.

In addition, the Portege "the world's lightest fully featured laptop" R600 that we've brought you news of from Canada, is available from the end of October, starting from £1099.00.
