Match.com notches up 1,000,000,000th connection

People looking for someone to keep them warm as winter closes in

20 October 2008 14:21 GMT / By Katie Scott

It seems that the economic doom and gloom isn't stopping people looking for love or splashing out on dates.

Dating website Match.com is celebrating that fact that over one billion emails and one billion winks have been sent globally on the site since it launched in 2001.

Romance appears to be recession proof, claims the team behind the site, as three of match.com's busiest days this year took place last month which is traditionally a very quiet time for the business.

So people are looking for love even if business is bad.

And, we're still spending money too on trying to impress a potential other half - in a recent survey of over 1000 match.com members, 85% of people said that they would spend between £30 and £51 on a date - the same as they would have done 6 months ago.

In separate news, to mark hitting the 1,000,000,000th, Match.com has set up match100 - which is a panel of its customers past and present who will share their experiences and dating tips.

    It is clearly an indicator of the low quality of the service!!!

    And consistent with:
    Many actual online dating sites offering compatibility matching methods could reach "as low as" 3 / 4 persons high compatible per 1,000 persons, so in a 10,000,000 persons database, you have as many as 30,000 / 40,000 persons to contact/date, that means a WHOLE PRECISION LESS than anyone could achieve by searching on one's own!!!!
    (30,000 persons is the population of an average small city!!!)

    A high quality serious online dating site with compatibility matching should reach no more than;
    e.g. 48 most compatible persons in a 10,000,000 persons database.
    So any person will be effectively matched with no more than 48 others and the matching system will not pass more than 480 million matches in a 10,000,000 persons database.
