Microsoft reveals free Xbox storage upgrade scheme

Hard drive-less gamers get a hand out

14 October 2008 12:59 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Microsoft has revealed its scheme to ensure all Xbox users are able to access the platform's new dashboard upgrade.

Microsoft announced that users would need 128MB of free storage space to run the New Xbox Experience - somewhat of a potential problem for Xbox 360 Arcade or Core owners without a hard drive.

The scheme to help those lacking the necessary memory space gives users a chance to upgrade their machine's memory in time for the launch.

Those interested need enter their console's serial number on a special site, then eligible users are offered either a free 512MB memory card or a refurbished 20GB HDD for £12.99.

  • NOT HAPPY.....
I purchased the 360 full system on day of release and it cost £279.00.
Now people who have JUTS got the system at a reduced price are getting FREE memory cards !!!!!
What about the customers who have helped get the console off the ground ?
What about all the times I've had to send my console back for repairs ?
Do I get anything for my troubles....Come on.....How about sending all Xbox Live subscribers a free memory card....

  • Americans SUCK !!
Another glorious cock up by Microsoft HA HA HA
Just the reason I got shot of my 360 and purchased a proper console (PS3).
At least we have intelligent people on our network service.

  • I've yet to access Xbox Live, but decided to delve into the world of online verbal abuse [ahem, gaming]; so, first things first, along I popped to the Storage Upgrade site:- lo and behold, as far as I can see one needs to be a member of the good 'ol US of A to be eligible for this [at least, it only seems to accept US addresses after keying in the requisite serial numbers].

On a second point, I see from the above comments that in no way is it true that [some of] our American cousins are narrow minded hicks who refer to the by now standard response of "Shut up homo" when challenged on, errm, anything.
