Humax address noisy PVR-9300T fan complaints

Cool(ing) update incoming

8 October 2008 13:33 GMT / By Chris Hall

When we reviewed the Humax PVR-9300T back in September, one of the most notable problems we found with the unit was the over-bearing noise from the cooling fan. Well it seems these comments have not fallen on deaf ears, and today Humax have outlined their intention to address the problem.

"We have discovered that this issue is a result of the fan settings, which are causing the fan to be in operation more than is necessary for the PVR-9300T to run effectively and safely", the statement reads.

"Humax has assigned a team of developers to upgrade the PVR-9300T software with Smart Fan Control functionality to resolve this problem ... From October, all new Humax PVR-9300T models will be manufactured with the new Smart Fan Control software and in November Humax will run an over-the-air upgrade for all existing PVR-9300T models currently being used in the UK."

Hats off to Humax, firstly for accepting the feedback and secondly for doing something about it. This is just the sort of action that justifies their extensive fan base (groan)...

  • Excellent news if it works. The fan noise was definately a disappointment.

Now all we need is for the USB connection to be enabled!

  • How will this update help ? If your car exhaust is blowing and makes a noise you replace the exhaust and the noise is gone. If you turn the engine off the noise is gone. But start the car again and the noise returns. IE: the fan should be replaced. Surely when the fan starts again you have the same noise. same fan same noise. Posted by John, UK

  • Just bought one of these yesterday 16 Dec 08, and the fan is still very noisy. Have not got it to look for latest software assumed it would already be up to date? Posted by Carl, UK
  • I've had my humax pvr 9300t for a couple of weeks now and I am not too impressed with it as it has developed a bad habit of doing somthing strange at night. We switch it off at bedtime and in the morning it is sitting there with the fan going like the clappers and an error message in the window. The message is
E-HW but you can't find out what this means as there is no list in the manual.

  • My new 9300T has two problems - connected by HDMI to the tv the sound level is fixed (have to use the tv's sound level control) and, perhaps the worst, the RF signal pass-through is blocked when the unit is in standby so no analogue tv. Posted by Brian Bush, UK
