iPhone sales hit 10 million

IMEI tracking project suggests major milestone reached early

6 October 2008 16:43 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

iPhone sales may well have already hit Apple's aim of 10 million for 2008, a research project has revealed.

This would mean Apple reaching the target 3 months ahead of its self-imposed schedule.

The stats are from a joint project between AFB and Investor Village's AAPL Sanity board.

The project "collects" and records the IMEI numbers of every iPhone 3G they can in order to track the state of sales.

The latest reports from the project is that the IMEI data point collected by the group suggests that iPhone sales are now at over 10 million units.
