Despite denials from Amazon's chief spokesperson to the contrary, it seems the etailing giant is indeed prepping a new model of its e-book reader.

US blog Boy Genius Report has received a set of images from a tipster that shows the second-gen device in many-angled glory.

The first shots of Amazon's Kindle 2 show a device that's a little wider and a little longer, with revamped buttons and layout.

The scroll wheel has been replaced with a joystick and another improvement sees the Kindle take two as able to be charged with a miniUSB cable.

Craig Berman of Amazon had told the New York Times: "There’s a lot of rumor and speculation about the Kindle".

"One thing I can tell you for sure is that there will be no new version of the Kindle this year. A new version is possible sometime next year at the earliest."
