Samsung announces "aggressive" pricing on netbook

NC10 cost dropped to £299 to match rivals

Samsung has issued a statement to the UK tech press revealing that the company's forthcoming netbook will have an "aggressive" price point.

When announced the NC10, an Atom-based 10.2-inch machine running Windows XP was slated to cost "up to" £329 excluding VAT.

This has been dropped to a new suggested selling price of £299, in order to price the product "aggressively against the current market".

"We have taken the decision to release the Samsung netbook NC10 at an aggressive suggested price point of £299 when it goes on sale at the end of October 2008", said Dinesh Chand, Samsung product manager for notebooks.

"This decision was made to reflect the current trend in the mobile computing market and our commitment to ensuring Samsung resellers are in the best position possible to supply customers with the highest-quality product possible at a competitive and attractive price."

Dell's rival Inspiron Mini 9 will hit the market at a from £299 price point, while Toshiba's NB100 netbook is due to cost from around £260.
