There have been whisperings and rumours, but it has finally be confirmed that Russia is going to get the iPhone next month.

The release date has been set as 3 October, and the phone is set to be sold at all of the country's major electronics retailers.

And Apple is rubbing its hands in gleeful anticipation at the 150,000 units analysts say could be sold by the end of the year.

Prices will be 22,999 roubles ($923.60) for the 8GB iPhone or 26,999 roubles ($1084) for the 16GB version.

The phone will also be available through the country's three biggest telecoms companies - MTS, Vimpelcom and MegaFon - all of which are now taking advanced orders.
