If you were wondering what your next Olympus DSLR might look like, then wonder no more. Languishing behind glass Pocket-lint found a prototype model of the next Four Thirds camera from Olympus. Known internally as the E-A1, the forthcoming model is based heavily on the company’s popular E-3 model.

Although details were thin on the ground, Pocket-lint learnt that the new camera will include a step-up in megapixels as well as a "multi-function interface", which we overheard an Olympus bod jokingly refer to as "magic and voodoo". Olympus claim that the new model will be aimed at the advanced amateur, and fall between the E-520 and E-3 models.

Featuring the fast autofocus and image stabilisation found in the E-3, it will include a hinged LCD screen and the new model will not be so severely weather-proofed, instead offering "...a new type of function ... which will support the creativity of artists and designers".

We found Ian Burley of Four Thirds User loitering in the area, who suggested that the E-A1 could be based on the Panasonic G1 processor, so likely to have a 12-megapixel sensor.
