The future is 3D, says Fujifilm

"New ways to capture and process images"

Photokina has been open for just 1 day and already there have been masses of camera - both compact and DSLR - announcements.

But here's something completely different.

Fujifilm has decided to give a quick glimpse into the future of photography, revealing new technology that its teams are currently working on.

The real image system comprises a 3D digital camera, 3D digital photo frame, and finally a 3D print and, says Fujifilm, it "marks a complete break from previous attempts to introduce this technology".

The ambition is to produce images that are "as lifelike as possible, or more simply, 'capturing an image exactly as your eye sees it'".

The 3D camera is developed around something called the Real Photo Processor 3D "which synchronises the data passed to it by both sensors, and instantaneously blends the information into a single high quality image, for both stills and movies".

Coupled with the chip are special identical high quality compact Fujinon lenses which are designed to ensure conformity between the left and right images.

The monitor on the camera is a 2.8-inch, 230,000-pixel LCD which shows 2D and 3D images.

Next up is the 8.4-inch FinePix Real 3D Photo Frame with over 920,000 pixels.

This shares the same tech as the LCD monitor on the camera and, using a new "light direction control module" will show you 3D images without you having to put on special glasses.

Last up - is the 3D printing system, which delivers 3D pics.
