The Digital IXUS 980 IS is a 14.7-megapixel offering, boasting a 3.7x optical image stabiliser lens.
Promising "there’s more to than just good looks", the 980 IS comes with Canon’s new DIGIC 4 processor as well as an all-new Manual mode that claims to give great creative control.
The new snapper will be available from late-September and will cost you £459.99.
We grabbed some shots at the launch, held at Canon's UK offices in Surrey.
