DAB radio gets 'Go Anywhere' approval for Europe
New measures to ensure UK radios work abroad

Consumers have been told that future digital radios bought in UK will work in France, Germany, or Norway following agreement by the WorldDMB forum on Friday.
In an attempt to standardise the multiple formats used across Europe, mandatory features and functions, known as the WorldDMB Digital Radio Receiver Profiles has been created so users here in the UK can benefit from using a British DAB radio abroad in Europe.
"The DRDB welcomes today's announcement from WorldDMB on receiver profiles. This will lead to better economies of scale for all receiver manufacturers, particularly in sectors such as the car industry," Tony Moretta, Chief Executive of the Digital Radio Development Bureau (DRDB) told Pocket-lint.
The problem has been created by broadcasters currently using either DAB, DAB+ or T-DMB Audio in different countries, which has meant slow pan-European adoption especially in cars.
"Consumers will in future be able to listen to their digital radios in any country in Europe. We therefore whole-heartedly endorse this initiative", Paul Smith, GM, of PURE who commands around 80% of the market.
