When Steve Jobs pulled out the MacBook Air from a manila envelope there was a noticeable gasp from the audience.

Laptops hadn't been shown like that and it was, as it normally the case with Apple, a great way of getting the message across.

Since then however there have been a couple of copycats including the Samsung X360.

However The MacBook Air launch was January.

Fast-forward 9 months and Dell thinks it's cool enough to try the same trick [yawn] with its new Latitude E4200 laptop.

The trouble is, apart from just copying the competition's advert, the manila envelop in the viral video posted on the official Dell blog is noticeably bulging.

Word of advice: If you are going to copy an idea you've got to not only take that idea and do it well, but you've got to make it better. Upping the ante as much as possible.

Something Dell, it seems, has failed to realise.
