Cambridge Audio has announced it will enter the Blu-ray arena with the launch of its first player in early 2009.

The 640BD will feature HDMI 1.3 output, including bitstream output of all the latest HD Dolby and DTS surround-sound systems plus internal decoding of Dolby Digital EX, DTS ES, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD and DTS HR surround-sound, designed to work with the company's Azur AV receivers.

As well as supporting up to 1080p from Blu-Ray discs the 640BD will also be able to upscale DVD discs to 1080p. Other Blu-coloured treats include 24 frames per second progressive scan True Cinema and Ethernet as well as analogue video outputs and stereo analogue outputs.

No other info, including what price this piece of kit will command, has been released, with more expected nearer to its spring oh-nine launch.
