Tesco launches Talkwi-fi VoIP service

For Nokia mobile phones

4 September 2008 9:22 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Tesco has announced a new internet phone service, Tesco Talkwi-fi, that allows customers to use home and office Wi-Fi networks with their existing compatible mobile phone and number.

Calls and texts made in this way are free to other Talkwi-fi customers while calls to other mobiles, landlines and international numbers can be "substantially" cheaper.

The new application needs to be downloaded onto a Wi-Fi enabled mobile handset and when completed, the product automatically routes calls over the selected Wi-Fi network reverting to mobile when there's no Wi-Fi.

Talkwi-fi is compatible with Nokia Wi-Fi enabled handsets: the N95, N81, E65 and E51, with further handsets to be added to the range before the end of the year.
