The toughphone from Sonim is pretty tough, however a new challenger from another company has surfaced that not only promises to be hard enough to withstand a good beating but adds a load of extra features to boot.Called the LM801, the brightly coloured yellow and black handset is rugged, water- and dust-proof and as we were shown at IFA in Berlin capable of being thrown about.
Tech specs read like a camping list. There is an electronic compass, an altimeter, barometer, thermometer, MP3 player, and FM radio.
If that wasn't enough there is even a torch added to the phone making it ideal for adventurers. However the most confusing addition is a laser pointer, perhaps just in case you need to do a quick presentation to a bunch of climbers at the top of K2.
The dual-band handset isn't currently available in the UK, however a spokesperson for the company told us they were looking for a distributor.
We will keep you posted. Phones, Mobile phones, IFA2008
