IFA 2008: Fifth-gen model gets IFA intro

Samsung has launched what it's describing as its most advanced Blu-ray player to date with the IFA introduction of the fifth gen BD-P2500.

Offering what's said to be a "significant upgrade" on previous models, it's equipped with an HQV processor with the claim that the BD-P2500 offers increased picture quality by refining image projection, even from non Blu-ray formats.

Sound also gets enhancements with support for Dolby Digital+, Dolby True HD and DTS-HD HRA with 7.1 channel output.

The player will be update-able with the latest Blu-ray firmware updates via Ethernet or USB port.

Thanks to that connectivity, the BD-P2500 also offers integrated BD Live features such as multiplayer gaming, e-commerce, movie trailer and subtitle downloads, and social networking and there's one GB of memory on-board for such apps.

No UK pricing has been revealed, but the player will go on sale in the States at around the $500 mark.
